"Give yourself more credit. You would be good even without me," she says, continuing to scratch her big puppydog of a lover. "I only make sure you take care of yourself."

"Perhaps I would be," he concedes, and he breathes out comfortably, weight settling even heavier on her. "Though I do think you need more credit, as well. I would not be here at all without you."

"Do you really wish to do this?" She teases, giving his hair a playful tug. "You saved my life and gave me a home. I would not be here at all without you."

He hums under his breath.

"This is the one battle against you I will win," he warns her, fondly. "I only made it a home because of you."

"Hmm. We will just have to agree to disagree," she says with another gentle yank. "But I'm more right than you are."

"You're not," he murmurs, right into the side of her neck, which he proceeds to kiss, small and peppered at first and then with an open mouth.

His beard makes her squirm with a giggle.

"I am! And trying to seduce me doesn't change that," she warns, voice fond. But there's no effort to get away--not that she could, under his weight.

“Really?” he murmurs, amused, before kissing her again. “This doesn’t appeal to your good nature?”

"My good nature doesn't mean I lie," she says, offended. "In fact, it means the truth is all the more important to me."

There's a grumble after her words as she tries to ignore that kiss. She knows he knows what it does to her.

“I’m fortunate to have a lover with such integrity,” he says, pacifying, mildly sheepish —— what clumsiness he has today. He lifts his head, finding her eyes. “My apologies.”

"I don't want an apology, I want you to admit I'm right," she says with a smile, clearly teasing him. "And that I typically am, for good measure."

He lets out a long, amused huff, letting himself settle again.

“The lady is right in many, many, many, many things.”

Silly. Jill laughs, threading her fingers through his hair again.

"You could have saved yourself some air by saying everything."

[rosarianoath]

"Another thing the lady is right about," he says, returning to her throat, kissing his way up it and to her ear.

He makes her giggle whether intentional or not.

"Your beard tickles," she tells him. "And you're distracting."

“I should get up so we can get on with our day, hmm?”

But he doesn’t stop, either.

"No, don't," she sighs, wrapping her arms around him. "Stay here. This is our day, and I'm so often right, remember?"

[rosarianoath]

He stops for just a beat, his nose pressed into the space behind her ear.

“I remember,” he murmurs. “We’ll stay.”

The rumble of his voice against her ear makes her shiver.

"I don't think you really wished to get up."

[rosarianoath]

“I always wish I could linger a little longer.”

He breathes out, slow, comfortable.

[noburden]

"Then you should. And don't say a word about hunting," she warns. "No excuses."

Clive runs his lips around the shell of her ear, humming.

“I am thus unemployed until the next sunrise,” he promises.

She laughs with another squirm, trapped between him and the mattress and content to remain there.

"I'm so glad I need not beg. Besides, I can always find a job for you to do."

[rosarianoath]

He smiles against her skin.

“And what job will that be?”

[noburden]

"Spend time with me," she says, and laugh still in her voice. "However you see fit. We can watch your show, if you'd like."

Not her favorite activity, but she likes to see him happy.
